Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Moon & Sixpence

Curious seafront building that appears to have been given a porticoed split-level front extension at some stage. The main entrance is now in the lower part, meaning that there are five steps up to bar area. There is then a second flight of steps up to the balcony room which has a fine view across the splendid Grade I listed pier. Semi-traditional furniture and decor throughout. Also offers accommodation. As a Greene King house, the beers on handpump were: IPA, Old Hoppy Hen, Abbot and Belhaven Grand Slam (£3.80)plus Old Rosie cider.

A good sized pub on the seafront just opposite the pier. The pub is a curious mix of old and modern – it doesn’t look particularly “olde worlde” but there are nonetheless a few wooden beams on the ceiling and some wood panelling reminiscent of an old hotel lounge.

The pub is split over three levels with the ground floor lounge being a traditional affair with a selection of tables, chairs and comfy sofa’s. A few steps brings you to a sort of intermediate level which has the bar counter and a few seats along one wall. This probably has the most character of all the areas in the pub, with some exposed stonework, old wooden floorboards and even a glimpse of an old stone wall behind the bar fixtures. A little bit of TLC wouldn’t go amiss; on the whole it’s fine, but fixing the tears in the leather bench seating would be an improvement. More steps take you to an upper lounge with great views across the channel and even a small balcony which must be a great spot in warmer weather.

The food offering seems popular, probably as much to do with the pub’s location as anything else, although we didn’t try it ourselves on this occasion. From memory it’s fairly standard “pub grub” although there was also a large specials board. Bar staff seemed friendly enough. The only letdown was really some rather noisy kids running around, although to be fair it was a Saturday afternoon. Hopefully you wouldn’t get this problem on an evening.

Beers on tap were all from Greene King, with their IPA, Abbot Ale, Old Speckled Hen and Hardys Hanson. Ciders were Blackthorn, Stowford Press and Aspall’s Suffolk.

Small carpark/outside area facing the sea on the promenade near Clevedon Pier. The building itself is not wheelchair friendly. The bar is reached by steps and a further flight lead to a front facing dining area.A small selection of ales, the menu is reasonabley priced and not to fancy.
