Blackthorn _ left this review about The Limehouse

A relatively recent addition to Hill Road, this is perhaps not a pub in the traditional sense, but more one of those open all day lounge type bars that are so popular these days, although this one has an altogether more relaxed and upmarket feel as opposed to many of the rather brash alternatives that are springing up.

Inside it consists of two bars, one behind the other. The front bar has something of a colonial feel to it with spinning fans on the ceiling and some large pot plants dotted around as well as some illuminated twigs. The flooring is bare boards and the walls mostly exposed brickwork with black painted boards on the lower part. The ceiling too has been painted black, but rather than appear gloomy it somehow manages to just blend in to the background. Large bi-folding windows at the front make the most of the warm weather and there were a few old black and white photographs dotted around although I’m not sure of their relevance to the local area. A second bar up a few steps at the rear had a broadly similar décor, although it may have been slightly cosier perhaps. There was also a snug off to one side with a couple of sofas, and old gramophone and a plaster cast bust.

The pub is open from 10:00 and so offers brunch and lunch options as well as the evening menu. This was described as a grazing menu and looked to consist of a number of sharing boards, tacos with various fillings and finger food which included a burger and a fish finger sandwich. Prices were generally around £9 or so, although it really varied quite a bit depending on which section of the menu you chose from. As is typical in such places, there was also a selection of cakes on the end of the bar. Boards on the wall highlighted the cocktail and coffee selection.

Unfortunately there were no ales on tap, real or otherwise, with the majority of the pumps being taken up by continental lagers. I did spot a couple of Bath Ales beers in the ‘fridge, and they had Thatcher’s Gold on tap which kept me happy. I actually really liked this, and will return to check out the food, but if you’re after something a bit more pubby, then it may not be for you, especially with the lack of any draught beer.
