This started off life as a well respected off-licence, but now seems to have morphed in to a wine bar besides continuing the off sales as well. As such, it's not a pub in the traditional sense and the beer range is somewhat limited, but it nonetheless offers a relaxed, chilled out ambience and I rather liked it.

It's a round building on a corner and the large windows all round the front make the most of the views (which may be familiar to viewers of ITV's "Broadchurch" since the road was the setting for the newspaper offices and the exterior shots of the hotel). The walls are mostly lined with racks of wine as one might expect, and these are all priced for off sales. What premium is added for on sales I'm not sure. It's carpeted throughout and the seating is a mixture of tables and chairs plus leather armchairs. There is a fire-place to one side with a pile of logs, although this was not in use when we visited and there was a colonial style fan spinning lazily away on the ceiling. A number of pot plants were dotted around, and a few old books were on a shelf. Table service is offered and there were some good views across Clevedon from the rear.

Downstairs is a cocktail bar with quite a different feel to it and looks to be aimed at a younger crowd. This consists of one room with a bar counter, and another smaller room off to one side. This had disco type lights whizzing around the walls which was somewhat distracting. The cocktail menu looked to offer a decent enough selection, with most options in the £7 - £8 range.

Beer choice was limited as mentioned previously, with just Bath Ales Gem on tap. The solitary cider was Thatcher's Gold. There were a few barrels racked up behind the bar, but unfortunately these appeared to be for wine or (even worse) tap water!

This is a tricky one to mark. I liked it, and they had Thatcher's Gold on, so I was quite happy. The staff were friendly and they offer a tapas menu which I will return and try on another occasion and they are offering community events such as Tuesday music nights. On the other hand, if you're looking for something a bit more "pubby" and a more extensive range of beers, then this may not be for you.
