A good solid traditional pub, away from the tourist trap. The owner of the pub was working the bar on our visit and he was very welcoming, along with a good chat. I liked the low slung bar counter in here and even noticed an old brass water tap at the end of the counter for your whiskey. There was a further room at the back and surprisingly everything was finished in red. This must have been the Red Blazer, as the walls were all in red, along with red leatherette banquette seating.
Six ales served from immaculate looking hand pulls, Orkney Best, Play Brew Blue Raspberry & Coconut Milkshake Pale Ale, Stewart Pentland IPA, Alechemy Rumdmc, Durham Magus.

The curved frontage wraps around a busy road junction ,on entering there is an impressive mosaic on the floor of a blue blazer and the saltaire. It's quite simple inside with the bar to the left ,traditional furniture dotted about and up two small steps a seperate side room with basic furniture. The guv'nor operates the bar and there is some food available but most punters were just drinking.
The real ale options on my trip were Cross Borders Session Pale,Vocation Pride & Joy, and Fyne Castle Black (NBSS 3.5).There was a Thirsty Cross real cider. The whisky selection is broad and eclectic and served at 35ml but we found that this pub can charge quite a premium compared with nearby pubs for the exact same product.Good pub but not quite the full monty.

A traditional street corner pub located just off the popular Leith Road, it consists of two rooms internally and was pretty much full to capacity on our recent Saturday evening visit.

As you enter the pub, the first thing you spot is an attractive mosaic tiled emblem of the pub’s name inset in to the floor with a date of 1889, presumably when it was built. To the left is a large bar counter with barrel ends mounted up above it, and a large selection of miniature whisky bottles. The flooring was very dark wooden boards with cream paintwork, and etched glass panes in the window. A slightly smaller room at the rear was broadly similar in style with deep red paintwork, bench style seating with red cushion padding and a large etched mirror, again with the blue blazer motif. An old fireplace was at the rear, although this did not look to be used, and a few old black and white photographs of the locale were scattered around the walls. An extensive selection of old whisky bottles was on the window sill. A decent 80’s mix of music was playing.

There was a good selection of beers on tap which on this occasion consisted of Franklin’s Blackwater, Pomone Island APA, Cromarty Hit The Lip, Stewart’s Jack Back, Pentland IPA, Anarchy Brew’s Straight Jacket and Top Cat Pale Ale. After that lot, the cider option was distinctly disappointing with just Magners being available. Other than that though, a decent little pub.
