Real Ale Ray left this review about Blue Blazer

A good solid traditional pub, away from the tourist trap. The owner of the pub was working the bar on our visit and he was very welcoming, along with a good chat. I liked the low slung bar counter in here and even noticed an old brass water tap at the end of the counter for your whiskey. There was a further room at the back and surprisingly everything was finished in red. This must have been the Red Blazer, as the walls were all in red, along with red leatherette banquette seating.
Six ales served from immaculate looking hand pulls, Orkney Best, Play Brew Blue Raspberry & Coconut Milkshake Pale Ale, Stewart Pentland IPA, Alechemy Rumdmc, Durham Magus.

The curved frontage wraps around a busy road junction ,on entering there is an impressive mosaic on the floor of a blue blazer and the saltaire. It's quite simple inside with the bar to the left ,traditional furniture dotted about and up two small steps a seperate side room with basic furniture. The guv'nor operates the bar and there is some food available but most punters were just drinking.
The real ale options on my trip were Cross Borders Session Pale,Vocation Pride & Joy, and Fyne Castle Black (NBSS 3.5).There was a Thirsty Cross real cider. The whisky selection is broad and eclectic and served at 35ml but we found that this pub can charge quite a premium compared with nearby pubs for the exact same product.Good pub but not quite the full monty.

A traditional street corner pub located just off the popular Leith Road, it consists of two rooms internally and was pretty much full to capacity on our recent Saturday evening visit.

As you enter the pub, the first thing you spot is an attractive mosaic tiled emblem of the pub’s name inset in to the floor with a date of 1889, presumably when it was built. To the left is a large bar counter with barrel ends mounted up above it, and a large selection of miniature whisky bottles. The flooring was very dark wooden boards with cream paintwork, and etched glass panes in the window. A slightly smaller room at the rear was broadly similar in style with deep red paintwork, bench style seating with red cushion padding and a large etched mirror, again with the blue blazer motif. An old fireplace was at the rear, although this did not look to be used, and a few old black and white photographs of the locale were scattered around the walls. An extensive selection of old whisky bottles was on the window sill. A decent 80’s mix of music was playing.

There was a good selection of beers on tap which on this occasion consisted of Franklin’s Blackwater, Pomone Island APA, Cromarty Hit The Lip, Stewart’s Jack Back, Pentland IPA, Anarchy Brew’s Straight Jacket and Top Cat Pale Ale. After that lot, the cider option was distinctly disappointing with just Magners being available. Other than that though, a decent little pub.

The Blue Blazer sits in a building which has been a pub since at least 1880's. The pub is a former title holder of the Edinburgh Pub of the Year and is a very traditional pub. There is a separate area at the back if you want to sit with friends and have a chat away from the bar area. The beers on tap has a choice of Joker IPA £4.90, Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted £4.50, Caesar Augustus IPA £4.70, Holyrood Pale Ale £4.50, Drygate Pilsner £4.70, Magners, Guinness, Pentland IPA £4.00, Edinbrew Blazin’ Good Eepa £3.00. The ale on tap has a choice of Frank Raspberry Beer Keith Beer’s Cousin £3.90, Tonkoko Milk Stout £4.30, Electric Above Clouds IPA £4.30 & farmer Jim’s Strawberry Fields £4.50. There is also a choice of over 50 whiskies and 75 different rums.

Proper old school looking boozer. Etched McEwans Windows, large mosiac on entrance, big mirror with Blue Blazer in the back room. Unusual real ales on - not heard of any but willing to give a Allelic Drift from the Panda Frog Project a go. Well kept.

Worth going.

Didn’t remember a huge amount about this one but ten years on and a couple of feet in the door was all it needed for things to fall into place. A wedge-shaped main bar painted in blue with a separate red room off right up a couple of steps. The interior is fairly basic and a little worn in places. The Edinburgh ‘blue blazer’ mosaic in middle of main bar floor was very impressive. Five pumps and one air pressure font. I went for a Teallach Kildonnan from the pump, which was flat and over-vented. The Fallen Brewery Chew Chew from font was better. Token cider (Thistly Cross) plus a decent keg selection. Highlight was the hushed grumbling from a bunch of Edinburgh middle class types who objected to me drying out a sodden sock on the fire grate (you’d think I’d slung a dead badger over it). A cold, wet January night wasn’t the optimal time to sample but it didn’t feel quite as essential as I remembered it being. Still decent, mind.

Great place to get a drink (loads of ale) in a good atmosphere and the clientèle well-behaved for a Saturday night. Excellent selection of 8 ales in great nick, along with a good range of whisky. A solid ale pub that's well-worth the visit. Rated 9

One that was highlighted by fellow PuG contributors as worth searching out whilst in Edinburgh and it did not disappoint.
This two room corner bar has been a pub since at least 1893, and it does have a very traditional feel to it. With it’s wooden floors, high ceilings and old brewery window panels and dark wood internal fittings it certainly has an old school boozer feel to it. Which is very appropriate considering it is named after a local school uniform, and there is a tiled blue blazer inlaid on the floor.
The internal space is quite small and I can well imagine it is very difficult to get a seat when busy. Fortunately not so crowded for my visit and I was able to get a seat in one of the booths at the back.
As mentioned by others the pub specialises in beers from smaller Scottish and North of England brewers and alongside the house Deuchars IPA was Scottish Borders Brewery Game Bird, Orkney Brewery Dark Island, An Teallach Ale Company’s beinn dearg ale and Sonnet 43 Bourbon Milk Stout.
The couple I tried were in excellent condition and I could have stayed a lot longer than I had time for.

Old Boots left this review about The Blue Blazer

A two room corner pub in Victorian plain-form. The counter along the back wall of the front bar has five pulls and two air founts, the beers are from small Scots breweries plus one from Caledonian, all on the 4.5% plus side, quality is spot on and there's a fair range of malts and a large collection of miniatures above the counter. Also above the bar back are three cut down barrels with a fourth in the centre of the floor acting as a table. The taproom is comfortable if care worn while the back bar is intimate with banquette seating and not as blue.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Blue Blazer

Compact, irregularly-shaped bar with a side room (hosting an open mic night when I visited). Traditional furniture and decor. Quite a young crowd in, but a relaxed atmosphere. Five of six handpumps and two traditional Scottish gas pressure taps working, offering a very choice of mostly local ales e.g. Houston Warlock (£3.60). Overall, well worth seeking out.
