This is a detached 60s styled pub and Indian restaurant. 60s places are always unexciting from the outside, this one is in plain brick with a white painted brick lower-level extension. There is a rear patio area.

The interior has a couple of rooms. The main area is a little like a Z-shape, with the serving bar in the middle, opposite a pinball machine and a games machine. One the one side is a bar area, in white and wood, with a tile floor, where there is a pool table and a couple of dart boards. On the other side is the lounge, which is in a clay colour, with a white ceiling and patterned carpet. There was a large screen TV showing the FA cup. The walls had Indian pictures and general mirrors on for interest. To the side there is what looks like an old outdoor. This room is in white, with a counter at one end, with a board above advertising several general curries. There are a few tables, but we ordered and ate back in the main room. The food was really good, with a lamb curry, rice and naan for under £8. The service was really friendly and it has a really good mixed clientele.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Mansfield Dark MILD. On handpull there were Dent's Ramsbottom and Welton's Land of Hope and Glory. All were decent. There is a discount for CAMRA members.

I have been wanting to visit here for a while, especially so after the Monster had visited and he gave it a good endorsement. It turned out, as the Monster says, as a good multi-cultural place, with good beer and food. I will be returning.

This is a 70’s or 80’s style building with an extended ground floor that is a privately owned free house. The pub was previously called the Red House but it is now owned by Asians and the new name is apparently a British-Asian term which means a glass of whiskey. The interior is L shaped and open plan with two distinct areas, a public bar across the front of the building and a smaller lounge in the back left corner. Through the main entrance is a short hall way with a door immediately on the right which leads into the public bar area, this has a brown and cream chess board tiled floor, half wood panel walls, a central pool table, a large flat screen TV on the right hand wall, two dart boards, one on the left wall by the entrance and a second on the right wall in the back corner, there was a couple of small round tables and short stools. The lounge is carpeted with a fire place in the front wall, a large flat screen TV above, bench seating around the right and back walls, half dozen rectangular tables and dining chairs. The shared bar counter is in the right hand wall of a narrow section that joins the two rooms, there is a single booth in the left hand wall opposite the counter. On the right of the building and accessed by a door in the public bar area is a café/takeaway restaurant which I have been told does excellent Indian food. Behind the pub is a patio area with a decked and covered section that has plastic garden furniture and a football table.

Regular ale is currently Banks’s Mild with two changing guest beers which were Moorhouse’s Pendle Witches Brew and Worthington’s Autumn Shield. All three were in excellent condition, in fact they were so good that an intended quick couple of halves with a friend developed into a bit of a session, my notes are noticeably wonky towards the end. There is a 10p discount off a pint of real ale with a CAMRA membership card.

Despite the rather drab and uninviting 70’s exterior this is a really decent back street community pub, the décor is surprisingly traditional, being a largely untouched 70’s take on a traditional pub, so there is some homely character. This pub had been recommended to me by some real ale drinking friends and they were spot on the money, the beer was absolutely top notch, just a shame they only had three hand pulls. This place is a little off the beaten track but it’s not far from the group of good pubs in the Chapel Ash area so I will return.
