Need to keep your eyes peeled, even if it is on the main road. Its a converted Grade II listed house and not obviously a pub when looking directly face on. I had to do a double check, after consulting Google Maps - then noticed the sign about the front door.
Small, multi-roomed, with the bar to the left and two further rooms on the opposite corridor to the right. The bar had a fire going but was busy, so I went to the back room, where I found solitude but no fire.
Went for landlord and although it tasted fine - its was completely murky. It is my most checked in beer, so I know how it is meant to look. Guessing, I was last in the barrel. Not quite what you'd expect from a good beer Guide regular.
The conversation starter comes from a visit to the gents. A living tree is a unique feature!

Classic old multiroom pub, I was a bit disappointed at the cask choice of three Greene King beers (Ruddles, Belhaven and a GK), Landlord and one other which was the only interesting choice.
Beer condition was fine and the pub is as outstanding as ever. The GK thing might explain the poor makeover.

This place has been well described below. It's still three rooms and still has (a highlight for me) a proper outside Gents where the tree is still thriving.
There are five hand pumps that had AJ's IPA, Robinson's Dizzy Blonde, St Austell Tribute, Greene King Festival Ale and a cider. I went for the AJ's IPA (£3.40) which was in good nick.
It may have had an ill advised makeover at some point in the past but I really liked it. It gets a strong 8.
