Via Fosse is a very big canal side Greene King pub with a large riverside terrace, the biggest in Nottingham apparently. The larger front section of the pub was closed during a recent Wednesday evening visit. The friendly barmaid running the smaller rear bar informed me that the front is open more in the winter months, the canal being the major draw in the summer. This rear section has seating, a stage for regular live music events and televisions for the advertised Sky Sports. St Austell’s Tribute and TT Landlord were available alongside standard and premium keg.

Huge, unbranded Greene King pub in one of the canal-side warehouses, with plenty of space inside even with just one of the bars open. For the better weather, there is also a substantial patio beside the water. Plenty of competition in the area, but not all of those do real ale so the manager is trying this again. Only Landlord on (£4.15) with Abbot coming next.

Via Fossa Is a former canal side warehouse that now operates as a higher end pub /bar that gets a lot of custom from the wanna be lardy da types. Unfortunately the only thing that seems high end to me is the prices as from my perspective the inside can at best only be described as average. As you enter the wooden bar is situated on the left and bends round the corner. The floor is entirely stone flagged and the walls are all exposed brick but to say this is meant to be a fancier place it really did have a lot of the hallmarks of a pub rather than a bar. There were lots of tables and chairs dotted around and a pool table that didn’t work one one corner. The clientele consisted of middle aged men in designer clobber supping lager on the canal side balcony although a few dolled up young women came in later on but it wasn’t peak time and it gets a lot busier in the evenings. There is a newish room at e front of the pub that is laughably named the Cask room. Absolutely void of any customers I went in when it first opened about two years ago and had three different casks of beer that were all vinegar which meant my only option was to get my money back through lack of drinkable beer, I would have taken anything but it was not to be, unsurprisingly this concept was later made redundant. on my latest visit there was no ale in the main bar which left me with either Guinness or Greene Kings west coast IPA. I opted for a Guinness at an expensive £3.75 and it was a crap pint. Bitter stone cold and an all-round rubbish beer I was not impressed. This pretty much summed up my reaction to this place, a soulless false upper class drinking den for the deluded and naive drinkers of Nottingham who have far too much money to waste on substandard drinks. If you can’t already tell I am not a fan and would be hard pushed to ever come again, I really didn’t like it in here.
