A Victorian corner pub which stands a solitary bastion against the urban commercial redevelopment which has taken place around it.  The downstairs has been knocked through, the original wall lines now evident from the concrete beams and cast iron pillars which have replaced them.  The bar area is irregular, and there are two vague areas identified by different floor coverings.  There is a dart board, gaming machine and large TV.  There’s been a pool table here, as evinced by the cues and scoreboard still present, so one hopes this will come back at some point.  It’s a bit battered and in need of a refurb, but it felt friendly and is very much a local’s pub.  There was a fair bit of noise from the adjacent road, and I imagine this would be an issue in Summer when the windows are open.  I didn’t see anything by way of a garden, and there is no parking associated with the pub.  Ales on were Doombar, Courage Best and Cheddar Goat’s Leap, all quite drinkable.  A no-frills old style town boozer, worth dropping on for a pint if passing.

Will Larter left this review about The Golden Fleece

Very busy when I was there at 2pm on a Saturday just before the match between Bath City and Luton Town, the ground being only a few minutes' walk from here. The beers were Bass, Courage Best and Shepherd Neame Spitfire, perhaps a disappointingly unadventurous selection, but my Bass was fine, so no complaints. There was a big screen showing football and a good atmosphere.
