Previously The Dolphin, this riverside pub has a bright, airy feel to it, helped by the renovation mentioned below. The staff were very welcoming, while the other customers were friendly and civilised. It’s certainly a nice surprise given its location. There was a good selection of teas available, and a number of people were having nibbles and non-alcoholic refreshments. There were two ales on, Butcombe Original and Bristol Beer Company’s Backcountry, both in excellent condition though very expensive for the area. Well worth a visit if passing down the river, and a useful place for lunch if in the area.

This pub is a bit tucked out the way, but has the advantage of the river running right past which makes a pleasant place for a pint on a sunny afternoon. Inside it's quite cavernous, far bigger than first impressions suggest. Besides the main bar area, there's a small sports room with a pool table, dart board, etc. and beyond that a large modern looking dining area which may well have been a skittle alley in a former life. There's also a smaller, cosier dining area and a decent sized patio next to the river.

The main bar has a traditional feel with a patterned red carpet, red bench seating and a fireplace with some type of log burner in. There seemed to be several food offers available, although we didn't check the menu. There is also a Sunday carvery counter between 12:00 and 4:00. Barmaid seemed friendly and helpful (and very attractive!). The music in the bar was playing slightly too loudly for a Sunday lunchtime though.

Beers on offer were Butcombe, Doom Bar, 6X and Pedigree, the latter being £2.50 a pint as they were apparently over-stocked. Ciders were Thatcher’s Gold, Blackthorn and Gaymer’s.
