Old Boots left this review about Cask

A long thin corner pub with the counter running down the left hand side to about halfway. The four pulls are straight in front of the door as you enter, with lots of nice interesting kegs on the longer counter face. Smaller Lancs & Yorks cask brewers on sale. Traditionally furnished with separate hard chairs at wooden tables, bench seating at the back and stools and a shelf opposite the counter. Basement toilets via a door halfway back on the right. Interesting old market buildings opposite, destined to be part of the Museum of Science and Industry whose main buildings, including the world's oldest railway station, are just down the road.

A very friendly and down to earth pub with no airs and graces, just good beer. The pub had a choice of four handpulled beers on our visit. I spotted Phoenix Wobbly Bob, so I went for that, excellent condition. Their other beers included Arbor Mosiac, which Mrs A enjoyed, Mallinsons Legend and Track Brewery Man in Shade. The interior was traditional in style with a mahogany bar over to the left of entrance. A timber front lounge area and a terracotta tiled floor towards the rear, along with further seating at the back and a patio garden.

Saturday night saw my first visit to Cask for quite a few years, and the one thing that struck me was how quiet it was compared to how it used to be. On previous visits it was standing room only but on Saturday we had no issue at all getting a table. The four hand pulls for cask ale are on the end of the bar as you walk through the door; on previous visits the bar has been crowded making these difficult to see, but not so on Saturday. The style of the place reminds me a bit of Bar Fringe. At Cask there is a larger back room and doors off there to an outdoor area. At the time of my visit the hand pulls were offering Crackendale by Thornbridge, Bramling Cascade by Mallinsons, Moonshine by Abbeydale and Ruby Jane by Ilkley. I enjoyed the Crackendale, but on this occasion was only staying for one so didn't get to try any of the others. Would be happy to pay a return visit.
