A well supported pub, which was busy on our Friday Eve visit. Seven Ales on handpump, so we went for the Black Iris Snake Eyes and Dancing Duck Sapphire, both of which were excellent. There was also a good selection of cobs on the bar, so my cheese and onion cob certainly filled a gap.
The interior consists of two rooms with separate entrances from the main front door, a small compact bar served both sides. We ventured into the right hand side room, where we found a small table in a raised snug area. This section had a small log burning stove and some recent watercolour paintings of local Morris Dancers. The colour scheme throughout was crimson and crème. Note the pub opens at 4pm on a Friday.

The White lion is a small community pub a ten minute walk out of the centre of Kimberly. The profile of this pub has been raised recently as it was named Nottingham Camra awarded it the title of best pub in Nottingham 2016. When you enter there are rooms to either side with a small bar room with some seating to the left with a much larger bar with additional room to the back and sides with many more tables and chairs, possibly for dining but it was late when I went so I did not any food. The pub itself had obviously see a lot of refurbishment with the bar being fairly new and a lot of new flooring and fixtures. There seemed to be a lot of modernising of old décor that I do not usually like to see as I think original features look much better, a classic example is painting the beams light colours that I think totally ruins them. There was a good number of locals inn on a Saturday evening and the pub does have a good following, probably why they can support so many beers for an out of town pub. I can see why camra like this place as there is a really good selection of of well-kept locally sourced beers that on my visit were Harvest Pale, Shiny Pale, Dancing Duck Summer pale, oakham Citra, Doomabr, plus a few In failed to note down. The shiny pale was in top condition and well-priced at £3.10 but thought the selection was a bit over on pale happy beers. Overlay this is a good ale drinker’s pub with many well-kept beers on the bar. The pub itself is not all that but adequate and a reasonable place to sit for a drink. I would return for a beer as you can you know thee going to keep it good here but probably not the sort of place I could stay all night as it feel more like a pub for the locals. This is not the best pub in Nottingham like the award says but is still worth seeking out. Possibly mix the selection up a bit thought (especially on a cold winter’s night).

The White Lion is a small stand alone pub that is on the swingate estate which is to the south of the A610.
Once inside there were a couple of smallish rooms and we had a drink in the bar which was a decent enough room to have a drink in,this pub used to be a Shipstones tied house and there was one real ale on the bar this was Shiptones bitter and this was a very nice drink.
I think this pub is still up and running but i dont know what beers are now on here.
