The Blacks Head Is a nice roadside pub on Burton road near the heart of Carlton. There are two rooms as each side as you enter but I only ventured into the right hand side bar rooms. Once inside this room the bar runs along the left hand side and bands around the corner. The room is long and thin and bands in an L shape with tables and chairs running along the back wall. There was a large screen showing the darts that most of the regulars were tuned into and also some good music quietly playing in the background on the jukebox (Chris Cornell/Soundgargen on repeat as he died that day that was a fitting gesture). There were five hand pulls on the bar with one cider. The beer options were Doombore, Harvest pale (£3.10), Edinbrews 85 Shillings (£3.40) and a House beer called Black horse but this had no supporting information on it. The Edinbrew was a really nice well-kept drop full of malt character and a style that is becoming increasingly rare and one I do like to drink as an alternative to the entire hop monsters usually favored these days. The harvest pale was also in good condition. The decor was a little basic and it’s not the comfiest place to sit with just basic seating but everything was very pleasant and a good time was had. Overall this is a solid drinker’s pub with a decent choice of beer (Doombar aside) although the gust was a shad eon the pricey beside for the area. I would call again if in n the area as it is one of the better ones along this stretch.

The Blacks Head is a decent looking pub not far from the middle of carlton it used to be an Ind Coope house in the 80s.
The pub now has cask marque signs outside and does have a selection of real ales.
