Regular town Marstons pub with seven cask ales available. This pub charges an unjustifiably high prices for its bog standard regular beers with a pint of 3.7% Burton Bitter coming in at an eye watering £3.70. This is very high price in comparison to the very average pub that was empty aside from us on our 9:00pm visit. It lacks at atmosphere and character.

the beers were the usual Marstons range with Pedigree, Cumberland as well as seasonal s from some of the brewery's it has taken over. The beer is kept nicely but this is a very dull lifeless pub that charges too much. worth a beer if passing but there is so much better in York.

Although there's a decent choice of beers on here (six over seven hand pumps, with one duplicated), I was not very much impressed with the atmosphere here. This is probably more to do with the dreadful pop music that was playing at an inescapable volume than the attitude of the staff or customers. Perhaps I was put off by the high price of the beer here (£1.85 for a half, compared with the already expensive £1.75 encountered in the other pubs sampled in York on this occasion), but I felt the pub was trading on its "ancient pub" status, with little effort made to enhance the experience.
