Steve C left this review about The Three Tuns

The Three Tuns is a long and thin pub with seating in the windows either side of the central entrance. This seating continuous up the right faced by the bar counter on the left-hand wall. At the rear is a small open plan seating area. There are lots of framed occult pictures n the gents for some reason.
The bar supports standard and premium keg and the four hand pumps were drawing Ossett’s White Rat, Wainwright, Pedigree and Ringwood’s Boondoggle. There are also four ciders options. Food is available, the cheeseburger is priced at £13. The service was very friendly and I thought this place was OK, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to revisit.

Another old pub, reputedly haunted and all that malarky. As it’s York many people have described the interior more or less accurately - it don’t change much. Currently owned by Marstons, it was once badged as a Mansfield house, so you’ve got three pulls of their (Carlsberg Marstons Brew Co) stuff including a mediocre and pricey (£4.80) Pedigree, with Daleside bringing up the rear on a fourth. Yes it’s a bit over decorated with stuff.

Quite a cosy old timbered pub, a little bit over-embellished with pictures and other tat to appeal to the tourists no doubt, but friendly enough and largely patronised by shoppers on this visit. A reasonable selection of beers from the wider Marstons range are offered plus the odd guest, which proved to be a rather delicious Salamander Python Porter. Some boxed Rosies Pig ciders were also noted.

Regular town Marstons pub with seven cask ales available. This pub charges an unjustifiably high prices for its bog standard regular beers with a pint of 3.7% Burton Bitter coming in at an eye watering £3.70. This is very high price in comparison to the very average pub that was empty aside from us on our 9:00pm visit. It lacks at atmosphere and character.

the beers were the usual Marstons range with Pedigree, Cumberland as well as seasonal s from some of the brewery's it has taken over. The beer is kept nicely but this is a very dull lifeless pub that charges too much. worth a beer if passing but there is so much better in York.

Although there's a decent choice of beers on here (six over seven hand pumps, with one duplicated), I was not very much impressed with the atmosphere here. This is probably more to do with the dreadful pop music that was playing at an inescapable volume than the attitude of the staff or customers. Perhaps I was put off by the high price of the beer here (£1.85 for a half, compared with the already expensive £1.75 encountered in the other pubs sampled in York on this occasion), but I felt the pub was trading on its "ancient pub" status, with little effort made to enhance the experience.

Beers were all from the Marston's stable, but we did find a new one for us, Wychwood Piledriver which had Rocking all round the world, and Status Quo on the pumpclip, and was a decent drink too. Quirky sayings around the walls, and beer was available in 3 x third pints if you wanted to try 3 of the Banks, Pedigree, Piledriver and Boondoggle beers on. Good food menu.

We did indeed call in again last night at about 9:45. Several decent beers from the Marston stable on the bar. The pint of Ringwood Boondoggle I had was in good nick. The place was quite busy with diners who had all finished eating when we arrived but they soon moved on and the pub took on a more traditional feel. It's not bad in here especially after food service has finished.

Most of the pubs in this part of York are very foody at lunchtime & early evening. This one is no different, in fact I think we were the only people in the pub on a Sunday, early evening, who weren't eating. Soupy describes the pub below, so I won't bother. The beers on handpump included Hydes Ringmaster & Castle Rock Harvest Pale, both were in good condition. It's a bit too touristy for us really, but as it's in one of the main tourist areas it's only to be expected. It's a decent pub and we'll call in again, but probably not on a Sunday.

A rather bizarre higgledy-piggledy looking terraced Marston's pub/eatery in white render with black paintwork. One of the 723 pubs in York that claims to be the oldest.

The interior is effectively one long narrow room that runs along the side of the serving bar, with a slightly wider bar area on the left as you enter and a dining area at the far end. In fact, it is so narrow, you have to breathe in when someone passes you, which doesn't help when the pub is crowded, as it was, with a mixed clientele - but yes, it is quaint. The decor is white artex, with some undressed stone and wood panel, with white ceiling, beams and wood seats. The food we had, just a sandwich, was fine. The service was fine. There were drawings of York on the walls (not straight on the wall, you knew what i mean't!) and some ephemera, like jugs and some stained glass.

Beer; tap stuff with a decent Marston's range on handpull; Ringwood Showman's Tipple, Wychwood Wychcraft, Cumberland Ale, Hobgoblin, Marston's EPA, Snecklifter and Banks's MILD - the Snecky, MILD, Hobgoblin and tipple were all fine, less so the MILD. There was also a decent bottle range as well.

Worth breathing in, or losing a few pounds to go and visit, however it could become too cramped to stay for a long time - still, a happy revisit.

This pub looks really nice from the outside and is pretty much unaltered inside with stone floors and low beams.
There are 6 handpumps on the bar with guest beers on, i think this pub is well worth a visit and it is on one of the less busy streets in the middle of York.
