Alan Winfield left this review about The Bay Horse

The Bay Horse is situated in the middle of Bristol and has lots of traffic going by if you want to watch it.
Once inside there is a largish oblong shaped room which runs to the rear where the bar is,the room is divided into different areas, there is a raise area to the rear right, the room is bare boarded and the seating mainly normal tables and chairs with a few settees.
I took this pub to be a Geeene King tied house with what real ales were on the bar and by looking at the menus, there were two real ales on the bar with a few unclipped pumps,i had a drink of GK London Glory which was a decent drink, the other beer was Old Speckled Hen.
The pub was packed on my Saturday afternoon visit with both drinkers and people having meals.
I found this to be a decent enough pub for a quick half.
I still have my doubts about this being a John Barras house.

Recently refurbished, this pub sits on a busy junction on the edge of the city centre. Inside the interior is modern with cream and purple walls, a mixture of a busy patterned carpet and wood flooring, modern art prints seeming to have an oil rig theme as well as some 30s style showing cottages in rolling countryside. The pub is effectively opened out inside but remaining sections of internal loadbearing walls and chimney breasts mean that there remains a feel of separate areas. Mixed seating of all known types, low key music but with a series of TVs showing Sky News muted.
Large arched windows remain from a previous era and let in lots of light on a corner site, likewise the ceiling retains ornate cornices and ceiling roses.
There are four handpumps on the bar, one was reversed, the others offering St Austell Tribute, Bath Ales Gem and Black Sheep Bitter. Two boxes behind the bar contained Weston's Original and Old Rosie ciders. 10% discount for CAMRA card carrying members.
Not a bad spot if lacking in real pub character, the beer was well kept. Some railed off outdoor seating offers excellent traffic views.
