As it’s name suggests, this is more of a hotel bar than your traditional pub, but it is nonetheless open to non-residents, although how many people would actually choose to go in there when there are other far better options nearby is a moot point.

The bar area is just to the right of the entrance doors and there are large floor to ceiling windows giving good views of the building opposite. A few comfy sofa’s were located here to make the most of this, whilst elsewhere high tables and chairs with very low backs, almost stools, were the seating options. The flooring was mostly parquet wood with some mosaic tiles around the bar, whilst the paintwork was predominantly cream with a shade of turquoise on the wood panelling. Elsewhere some very thin wooden strips had been fixed to the lower part of the walls and there was exposed brickwork behind the bar. A lamp fitting made of old Kilner jars was an unusual feature and a notice next to the bar advised that they had a resident bee keeper and a hive on the roof.

Unfortunately there were no real ales on tap, just keg Caledonian Coast to Coast, although even this appeared to have run out. The solitary cider meanwhile was Symonds Founders Reserve. Prices seemed expensive with two halves coming in at £5.20.
