Thornbridge Brewery have given up their lease after 10 years, and the owner of the pub, Brian Johnson, has taken charge of running it again. (It was he who won the award for the sensitive restoration of the heritage interior more than 20 years ago.) The pub reopened last Friday, though there's still a bit of redecoration to do, including hanging some curtains, which Thornbridge evidently thought were unimportant, but Brian agrees with me that they improve the look, the ambience and the acoustics. Six hand pumps at present, with one cider and five beers, including Acorn Barnsley Bitter, Thornbridge Jaipur and a couple from local Bradfield Brewery, plus a number of keg beers and lagers.

A nice looking pub that hasn't been tampered with to any great extent, owned by Thornbridge it was no suprise to find that the three beers available from the six handbumps were by the brewer, Lord Marples, Brother Rabbit and Crackendale, the later being in excellent shape.
A great pub to finish my three day stay in Sheffield on.

This old unspoilt two room pub has been more than well described below. I got here early on a Friday lunchtime when the six beers were as listed below. I went for the Thornbridge Chiron (£3.60) about which I had doubts over the quality although it was nowhere near the sending it back stage. I then went for the keg Jaipur (£4.40) which again was OK but I've had better. It might have been the recent hot weather at the time but I also noticed that one of the casks was quite cloudy. It's an excellent old pub but for me there was a question mark over beer quality.
