Will Larter left this review about The Robin Hood

My final pub of the day, which left me in a bit of a dilemma, having to choose between Pontefract's three railway stations, working out which train to aim for, judging how long it would take me to walk to the relevant station for the chosen train, and consequently how many more drinks I could have in the time available. This was made even more challenging because of the range of beers on offer, including five from Henry Smith, of which brewery this is now the tap. (The three others were Timothy Taylor Landlord and one each from Revolutions and Scarborough.) The beers I had came to £3 per pint after applying the Camra members discount and were in very good condition. There were a few other drinkers in at the time of my visit, mostly locals it seemed to me, and the young lad behind the bar was helpful and friendly. I had a little wander around, and found the pub to have all sorts of nooks and crannies. “Eccentric and characterful”, say my notes made at the time, with lots of pictures and plenty of hooks, on the walls and the bar counter respectively. Definitely the best pub of the day; so the best in Pontefract, obviously. The only downside is the fiendishly busy roundabout outside the front door, which means risking your life to get a decent photo.

Nice old fashioned type of pub, two cozy rooms front and back, with a side room off to the side looking a bit Laura Ashley although that may have just been the punters. The front room is in standard traditional pub decor and furnishings, and has four pulls, Taylor's being the only well known brand. The back bar is similarly appointed but the four pulls are all carrying beers from the on site Henry Smith brewery.

Re-opens 21.11.14 at 18.30, after a period of closure, owing to the cellar being badly flooded, earlier in the year.
