Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Funky Bear

This former estate pub has changed completely in recent years and is now more of a restaurant. There is a separate dining room, but almost all of the tables in the bar are also laid up for dining. This certainly won't appeal to the traditionalist, but it has attractive semi-modern furniture and decor throughout, and there is a small patio area between the building and the retaining wall supporting the car park. It's still run by Thwaites, so it was a surprise to find just an anonymous 'house' golden ale (£4.00) and the ubiquitous (and now Marston's) Wainwright available from two of three handpumps.

Soup Dragon left this review about White Lion

A detached 60s-styled undressed brick Thwaites pub, with small patio area and decorated with hanging baskets.

The interior has two rooms, however the larger lounge was in the process of being refurbished and closed off. The bar is quite small and decorated in yellow and wood panel, with fake beams, but nothing really in the way of pictures - don't know if this is anything to do with the refurb or not? There is a dart board and TV, which had Sky Sports News on. On my visit there was a poker tournament on, so room was very busy with the players. The service was fine and there was no background music.

Beer; usual tap stuff, along with Thwaites Dark Smooth and Smooth, and with Thwaites Original and Lancaster Bomber on handpull. Had a Dark Mooth for old time's sake, which was fine.

Along with the Pint Pot, this is at least a proper pub in Mere Green area and as such worthy of a visit - i shall return when the refurbs are completed

General Staal left this review about White Lion

Fistly, the White Lion is a Thwaites pub.

It looks very much a 60s estate pub from the outside.

Inside it is divided into two rooms, the larger Lounge is on the left and the smaller Bar is to the right. Although you can just drink in the Lounge, it is where the food is served. It is decorated in red, cream and green with wooden partitions which matches the wooden furniture. It seems to be trying to create a 'heritage' feel that is out of keeping with the actual age of the building.

I popped in on a Friday afternoon at 2:20ish and it was very quiet. In the Bar area, no-one was actually behind the bar. A customer offered to get the staff for me, but I went into the Lounge instead and was served by a very nice, polite Liverpudlian lady.

As I was driving, I only had a Coke. However, there were three real ales on: Thwaites Original Bitter, Thwaites Wainwright and FAB, which was also Thwaites. It also had the usual tap stuff, including Thwaites Smooth.

I have given this place a rating of 5 Stars based on the fact that the staff and the customers were friendly and I felt comfortable in here. As I didn't try the beer I can't give it higher. However, I would be happy to come back and actually try the beer.
