The previous review still greatly applies. This is a very good pub, located just behind the old Shipstones brewery and handy for the tram (northbound at least). The interior is perhaps a bit heavy on the bare brickwork but apart from that it is an excellent drinkers' pub with a large and popular garden. An excellent range of beers too - I am always a sucker for Titanic Plum Porter and this was in excellent form. Worth a visit.

This pub is living proof that no matter what area you operate in, if you can do the basics right and create a good atmosphere with good drinks then people will come. The lion is a Pub people company pub set in the back streets of New Basford close to Hyson green and Forest Fields in a less desirable area of the city were many pubs have closed down (especially Hyson green where there is now only one a single pub left). But as mentioned gets extremely busy on all nights of the week because of its constant entertainment and drinks selection. There is a central round island bar dispensing eleven cask ales with harvest pale (£3.05) being permanent and the rest constantly changing. The beer is always well kept here and on my last visit the Shipstons bitter (£3.20) was in excellent condition as was the oakham Bishops Farewell (£3.35) and Totally Brewed Crazy Like a Fox. Live music a couple of times a week as well as quiz night and darts teams make this a real community pub and a destination for people (such as myself) to venture to from all corners of the city. It also has a great beer garden with lots of grass and seating that plays host to numerous beer and music festivals throughout the year. The best pub in the area and defiantly one to seek out.

Great pub, one of the best ranges of beers I have seen in a pub in the UK. When I visited it had 8 cask ales all in good nick, including beers from Thornbridge, Blue Monkey, Castle Rock and Nottingham Brewery, AND a craft beer bar with 4 UK keg beers including a Brewdog Punk and a fantastic pint of Jaipur, AND a cider bar with 8 different ciders.
Definitely worth the tram ride out of the city centre for.
