A traditional-looking pub in the student area, whose pub sign makes it clear exactly what sort of horn is in hand (a French one). The interior has been almost entirely opened out, apparently at different times: once with cast iron pillars, and again with pillars of brick (or encased in brick, more likely). The tables are a bit rough, each having its own box of sauces in sachets and a "bone bucket" (yuck). In normal times I could have escaped all this by visiting what they claim to be the biggest beer garden in Nottingham (really?) but this was undergoing refurbishment. My half of Pheasantry Best Bitter was good but not that good (the alternative was Blue Monkey PG Sips, but I refuse to drink beers where the pump clip makes jokes about monkeys and/or apes, and/or doesn't know that chimpanzees are not monkeys but apes).

Part of the Scream chain of pubs the horn in hand is a inn city haunt for the local students of the nearby uni and college but also attracts a few alternative types. The premise of this pub is cheap drinks but lately i find their prices quite middle of the road and and better deals are to be found elsewhere if yo are price conscious. The usual keg lines are kept rater averagely in my opinion but the real ales are usually quite nice, and two two three offers are usually available but only two were on my recent visit. I had a drink of Hobgoblin gold and this was a very nice drink but pricey at £3.20. An ok pub to have a drink but more of an evening venue with rock music blasting out of the jukebox. not everyone cup of tea but serves its purpose.
UPDATE September 2016,
HAs had a massive refurbishment and has priced itself way out of the am market, £4.20 for a pint of locally brewed blue monkey 99 Red baboons in laughable with Purity Mad goose being £3.50 and the trooper £3.85. Our party of five were the only drinkers at half five on a Friday evening in probably the largest student hot spot in town really shows how deluded this pub is, surely much more and they will realize that the reason their pub was always full was because it catered for the students, as it is now they literally have no market and only have themselves to blame, i say shame on them!!

When i first went in this pub in the early 80s it was called the Spread Eagle and it was a Bass tied house.
The Horn in Hand is situated very close to Nottingham Trent university so it gets a good crowd of students in.
Once inside the pub has got a single room that is square shaped, the bar is on the left side and there is a mixture of seating types with leather settees and normal tables and chairs the pub is part bare boarded and the rest is carpeted.
There were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Blue Monkey BG Sips which was a very nice drink the other beer was Burton Bridge Channel Swimmer.
The pub was fairly busy with mainly student types on my late afternoon visit and i thought the pub had a nice laid back atmosphere, there was also some decent music playing which always keeps me happy.
I quite enjoyed my time in here.
