didn’t notice the upstairs bar. or indeed any aroma. there were a few bikers in but this just felt like a friendly side street bar with a slight bias towards rock music. a really good one roomed boozer and, since you asked, a good selection of real ales too. 8/10.

This is a bikers style pub but without the bikes. An upstairs bar and a ground level bar of which both can be of varying aromas. Usually a decent variation of real ales on over time. Lots of interesting, or quite possibly dull, clientele to mix with and most can be very hairy, usually unwashed. Lots of crusty old blokes trying to look like wizards can be a bit of a bore. Still its a decent enough place.

This is a pob I remember visiting in the 80's and 90's and it's hardly changed at all.
Inside it's a narrow open plan room with a wooden floor, fairly basic wooden furnishings and the bar on the right. It was fairly quiet on my Saturday afternoon visit and given it was July there was nobody wearing a grubby overcoat.
One of the main attractions here is the great rock jukebox which still has CDs rather than a hard disk drive full of rubbish. It was on at a fairly high volume which normally would put me right off but not here. The record selection seems to have moved on a bit since I was last here but they still had Lynyrd Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama. I didn't get to put anything on as younger folk than me kept putting selections on.
The bar has eight hand pumps which had two unused, Phoenix Wobbly Bob & Hopsack, Cottage Iron Duke & Starlight, Lancaster Honey Brew and Robinson's Trooper.
I had a couple of the Wobbly Bobs which was £3.85 a pint and in excellent condition, To me this is well overpriced but to be fair the Phoenix cooking beer is only £2.75. I've only ever tried Wobbly Bob in here and if the current owners ever retire one would hope that Phoenix brewery might consider taking it on. It gets a nostalgic 8 from me but is really probably worth less! I can't imagine a visit to Liverpool that didn't include a Wobbly Bob in here.
