A one roomed low ceilinged Brakespears pub, the beer choice was ordinary and expensive,
Brakespear Bitter and Top Notch,Hobgoblin ,Hogs Back Tea and Deuchars IPA at £2.20 a half.
Not a great pub ,dropped a point on price.

This is one of six original Brakspear pubs in the Wokingham area and remarkably all six are still open. Only three could be regarded as being in the centre of Wokingham and this is one of them. It's a single L shaped bar with wooden floors but there is a small carpeted snug on the far right. There is a bar billiards table and a darts area down the far end on the left. It was quiet on my Friday afternoon visit.
The bar has five hand pumps with Brakspear Bitter, Oxford Gold & Hooray Henley, Hobgoblin and Thatcher's Cider. I went for the Hooray Henley (£3.80) which was in excellent condition but at that price it ought to be.
I thought this was pleasant enough but if the price paid for the 4% ABV beer is typical I won't be returning.

Visited a few days back. There's now a bar billiards table. Three Marstons list ales; the Hooray Henley was so-so, the Brakspear Ordinary nigh-on undrinkable despite the barmaid (who merrily conceded she didn't drink the stuff) saying it tasted alright. It was at least changed.

April 2013
Popped in again the other day and it seems that the pub is definitely well-away from its bad reputation now. Four ales from the Marstons stable (Brakspear Ordinary, Special, Gold and Wychwood Hobgoblin) which were fair though none really sparkled. The L-shaped interior is a bit more opened-out than I recall which is a shame as it has lost a bit of charm. However the curtained-off area on the right hand side of the main entrance is nice and the rear garden has a state-of-the-art smoking shelter and some nice grass. We got caught up in the sparsely-attended quiz and were made to feel welcome. Wokingham is a good little town for pubs and this one is worth a look. Rated 6

For most of the noughties this pub was crap. Like, really crap. Flat/off beer, grunting locals and fights. It was decent enough inside, but needed an almighty a kick up the arse. So my heart sank at Christmas when a friend wanted to go in here but he assured me it was 'better' than my desperately garbled arguments as to why we should go somewhere else instead. However when we go there I was pleasantly surprised - the place is clearly under new management and has had an overhaul. A couple of Brakspear beers were on which were in good condition. The barman was a bit of a patronising type though; however I always like to throw a bit of sarcasm at that sort of thing so he dropped the 'young man' twaddle fairly swiftly after being called an 'old boy'.
