No longer a Wetherspoons, apparently due to a rent hike for the complex. Now owned by Stonegate, who acquired a number of other Timbo cast-offs from recent years. Very little has changed here, and indeed you’d be forgiven for thinking that you have walked into Giggles as was – except for the absolute dearth of customers, almost dead on our Friday afternoon visit. Three pumps all, clipped with Bond Brews. One of them turned out to be unavailable, the second was a rank liquid which was taken back and taken off. The final one - Best of British – had an aspiratored, zombie-like feel. The future looks bleak here, which is a shame.

New signage but no other changes. Six ales on though only two of any interest - if you’re lucky. Hit and miss on the quality front, often violently so. Usual long wait at the bar, just one person on most times. Could be so much better with a bit of effort; and with Wokingham's pub scene so moribund they're missing an open goal. Rated 4

A Lloyds No.1 variant of Wetherspoons, this place always threatens to be a worthwhile visit but is often let down by inconsistent beer quality and availability. Usually busy during the day and early evening with the usual combo of mums with pushchairs and OAPs, both there to get some cheap food and beer. After getting busy for an hour around 7pm, it then tends to empty out in the evening as the hordes of young drinkers head towards the bright lights of Reading. As you enter you're staring at a huge uninterrupted floorspace - grab your beer and head over to the far end, where some more pleasant seating is to be found. In a small town rich with pubs, this one should only be the crawl list for a cheap dinner. Rated 4

I had intended to stop in here for a breakfast before the mid-day cut off point with 15 minutes to spare, It soon became apparent after waiting 5 minutes with several people ahead of me I was pushing my luck, just one girl serving so not her fault but its the same old JDW problem.Beers on were GK IPA and Abbot,Loddon Hoppit and Hallabualo and Hogs Back TEA, so not very inspiring. The whole experience was rather poor.

The name of this pub has nothing to do with live bands but the fact that it is built on the site of and old brewery where "gigs" were stored that the dray horses pulled to deliver the beer. It opened in 2004, presumably just after the whole area had been built. Inside it's one large room with modern fittings that is rather dark. It's a Lloyds but there was no music playing. The pub was virtually deserted on my Friday afternoon visit so there was no problem getting served, if anything the staff were queuing to serve me!
There are only six hand pumps and three being taken up by the two GK beers and London Pride, this left just Wild Weather Big Muddy, Ringwood Old Thumper and Loddon Hullabaloo. The Big Muddy was a Manager's Special at £1.99 but nevertheless I went for the Old Thumper (£2.35), one I've avoided since they watered it down. It was in first class condition. I suspect that I came here on one of it's good days as it was a lot better than I was expecting, but that doesn't detract from the dull modern decor and the limited choice of ales.
