Blackthorn _ left this review about Kitty O’Sheas

A basement bar located in the centre of Edinburgh’s New Town, this apparently has an Irish theme as it’s name suggests, although I didn’t notice that this was particularly prominent in terms of it’s style or décor, or thankfully the cider choice either come to that. It’s clearly aimed at a younger crowd, and was still heaving when I left at something past midnight.

Internally it’s mostly one open plan room with limited seating, although there were also one or two other rooms further back. Flooring is some type of concrete screed whilst the walls were a mixture of whitewashed brickwork and wood cladding, some of it painted in various pastel hues and some left unpainted, other than the word STORE in large letters. There were chunky wooden beams on the ceiling and a few TV’s were dotted around, but the not inconsiderable volume came from a two piece band on the small stage area, who were to be fair, belting out a decent enough selection of hits including Shania Twain, Lily Allen and Madonna. Various beer barrels were dotted around to aid vertical drinking. A snug at the area was much cosier with vibrant green wood panelling on the walls, and shelves full of various bits including books, a ship’s lantern and whisky bottles.

Unfortunately, there were no real ales on tap and I neglected to note the keg selection, if any. On the plus side though, they did have Sharp’s Cold River cider, which whilst it might not be my first choice, is certainly better than the dross you normally find around these parts. Overall, this was perhaps better than I expected, although it's certainly not the type of venue I would normally choose.
