Tucked away just off the main drag this is an old style pub with 10 real ale taps so even with some doublers you have a good selection. Food served.

Eight hand pumps by my count, with just Timothy Taylors Landlord doubled up, and although I didn't note all the beers, I know that one was Arran Red Squirrel, because that's what I drank. I liked it in here for its friendly service, traditional pub atmosphere, green tiles on the walls and bare boards on the floors. Whatever after work crowd there might have been was only just gathering when we were here, so we didn't need to raise our voices but I imagine it gets pretty noisy when it's busy, with all those tiles and boards bouncing the conversations around until everyone's shouting at each other.

This was one of my locals when I lived just around the corner in Dean village. It's changed a bit since then and has been opened up into one medium sized room from it's original three. It still specialises in pies though. There are 5 handpumps serving a safe selection of Scottish ales, but they're all well kept. In the GBG for 2010. It's a pleasant place to call in for one.
