A subterranean JDW with little exterior fanfare, housed in a grotty and run-down building that is also home to other businesses; what with the roadworks going on outside I almost walked past it. Beyond a tongue and groove vaulted wood ceiling there's little of note, one small sunken side area provides some natural light but otherwise it's a fairly gloomy Spoons-by-numbers. However the plus points were a decent pizza, friendly staff and three genuine guest ales - indeed my Stewarts 80\- was in good nick (NBSS 3.5) so no faults on the technical side of things. 5.5

Unlike some JDWs this one seemed to have a fair contingent of drinkers in on a Saturday afternoon. It's a large open plan and roughly square room with the main bar area down a few steps from the corner entrance. It's a bit old school but not desperately so.
The bar has ten hand pumps which had one unused, the Scottish JDW Trio Of Doom, Kelham Island Pale Rider, Everards Sunchaser, Abbot Reserve, Orkney Puffin Ale, Broughton Pale and Oakham Citra. I went for the Pale Rider (£2.49) which was in good nick. I thought this was a decent Spoons.

Quite a bland modern styled interior 10 real ale taps and food served. The quirky queuing from the right as mentioned by Clive Thomson below was still the system and at least it means you get served in turn rather than the madhouse that can sometimes happen in spoons.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Foot of the Walk (JD Wetherspoon)

Not the most prepossessing-looking building, and in a bit of a rough area, but the inside of this 'spoons is well maintained and better-looking than one might expect (although the strange layout makes it difficult to tell what the building's former use was). 10 handpumps, with a fair selection of guest beers (e.g. Pentland IPA from Stewart Brewing at £1.95) in addition to the usual suspects.

You’ll be marked out as a Sassenach fairly early in most Scottish pubs but you can delay the ignominy here, at least until you open your mouth, by abiding by the local custom of queuing from the right hand side of the bar to get served. I watched this over a couple of pints and, whilst some people just jumped in, the convention was generally observed. It confuses the hell out of the JDW zonal serving system. Small place by Spoons standards but plenty of tables and a decent bar.

Large Wetherspoons Pub on a busy corner. Good choice of real ale and the normal JDW all day menu.
