Real Ale Ray left this review about Mather's
A decent pub this one with the bar positioned over on the right hand side, which had a flowing curve to it, painted panelled front and illuminated cabinets along the back wall. Glazed tiling could be found around the front lounge perimeter, a upper stone wall and bare brick, along with a trendy patterned wallpaper in places.
The main feature on our visit apart from the beer, was the piano player on a Thursday night. The upright vintage piano had a great sound and stopped people in the street, who proceeded to pop in for a drink and listen to some Blues and Jazz.
Three ales on handpump Stewart Pentland IPA, Stewart 80s and Bellfield Lucky Spence IPA.

A bit of a shock when I walked into this pub. It used to be a traditional Edinburgh vertical drinking bar. A bit tatty at the edges, but still a decent place for a drink. It's now been refurbished to the point where I hardly recognise the place. Two levels, the top area has dining tables & chairs the bottom half higher tables and a little snug area in the window. 4 handpumps and my pint was in good condition. I was a little reluctant to bring the other half in here, expecting it to be still as is was, but she really liked it in its new guise.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Mathers Bar
Interesting-looking pub, just far enough from the city centre to avoid having all character refurbished out of the place. Plenty of original features inside and out, retaining a pleasantly old-fashioned (if slightly rough) feel. Small bar at street level, with a slightly larger seating area up a few steps. Five real ales on handpump, including a decent pint of Stewart No. 3 at £3.00. Also has a large range of malt whiskies. Well worth seeking out if you're not looking for something too refined.
