Colin Walker left this review about Inn on the Mile

The Inn on the Mile has not changed from the earlier reviews except maybe for the beers on tap. Such as Harviestoun Schiehallion, Heverlee, Tennent’s Menabrea, Hop House 13 lager, Caledonia Best, Guinness, Magners. There is a list available showing “Cocktails of the Week”. The place serves breakfast from 08:00 in the morning.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Inn on the Mile

Very prominent building - formerly a bank - in the central part of the Royal Mile. The footprint of the former banking hall isn't very large; and, with a high ceiling, the refurbished interior is quite an odd space for a bar. Modern furniture and decor, with a few unusual features such as the shelves of pewter tankards sprouting grass an the back. If you venture downstairs to the toilets, you'll also encounter the massive door of the old safe. Some additional patio seating is available at the front, and hotel accommodation to the rear. Three of four handpumps in operation, dispensing the regular Deuchars IPA, 'house' Mile Ale (£3.60) and Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted. Modest selection of keg and bottled offerings. Beer, whisky and wine 'flights' offered for those wishing to sample things. Overall, given its location, it was slightly better than I was expecting.

Really impressive stone building which I believe was a former bank, but now functions as a 9 bedroom boutique hotel with a restaurant cum bar on the ground floor.
Perhaps it has more of a bar vibe in the evening when the food service has finished, but for our lunchtime visit is was functioning more as a restaurant and there is very little pub feeling then.
For the record 3 of the 4 pumps were in operation with the same Deuchars IPA and branded Inn on the Mile Ale and again the barman I asked was clueless to what it was. It could have been the same barman as below but I would put money that none of the transient bar serving staff here would have a clue.
Fortunately a decent Harviestoun Schiehallion was on the 3rd pump, so that I had something to go with my scoff..
Worked for somewhere to eat but not a great experience as a pub during the day. As I say, maybe it gets better of an evening.

Old Boots left this review about Inn on the Mile

The Inn on the Mile occupies a prime tourist location at the junction of the Royal Mile with the North and South Bridges. A single square room of stripped brickwork with industrial steelwork. Booth seating down the middle on one side and vertical drinking at a shelf on the other, the outer edge has tables and chairs, all very unpubby. The counter runs down one side with a selection of mainly Scots kegs, there are four pulls but only the mysterious house beer and the awful Deuchars IPA were available. I asked the barman about the house beer but he knew nothing. At 4.2% and obviously Scottish I suspect it was Belhaven 80/-. There's a good selection of malts in the mirrored boxlike shelves forming the bar-back, the screens are very big and there's a wall of tankard amidst some remaining panelling. Essentially a tourist bar and not the best on the Royal Mile.
