The Manvers arms is a large roadside locals pub next the the church as you get towards the high street in the centre of Radcliffe on Trent. This is what I would describe as the least gentrified of all, the Radcliffe pubs and has retained a very traditional interior and acts of a proper traditional local. As you enter the corridor leads to on to separate rooms on each side both served by a small central bar. We went in the right hand side lounge and nestled up against a nice open fire in the corner with he room comfortably filled with locals who were very friendly and hospitable. The décor is quite old school with traditional window side bench seating and carpeted throughout. The pub has not been renovated to any great degree and retains a comfy lived in down to earth local pub feel. I only counted three hand pulls but the others may have been on the other bar, regardless the beer choice was limited to just one beer on te three pumps I could see in use which was Hobsons Bitter at £3.65 (and judging my past photos a brewery often featured). There was also a reverse Tribute clip and one labelled as “coming soon”. The landlord apologised for the lack of choice but explained the limited demand for cask among his customers at the time of visit meant only 1/2 beers were viable without compromising the quality which is a very fair point and one a lot of other publicans may wish to consider. The bitter was pretty decently kept without being the most exciting bitter in the world and the locals were more than happy to give us a run down of the Radcliffe beer scene.

Overall it’s a pretty standard locals pub with a small but perfectly adequate beer offering. It’s not a destination pub by any means but perfectly fine for a pint stop if ever crawling around Radcliffe like we were.

Architecturally an interesting looking building with a turret fashioned mid section, which incorporates a covered porch entrance leading to the main entrance. I was especially drawn to the gothic style upper window frames. The interior of the pub is traditional in style with the lounge side having upholstered bench seating, carpeted throughout and cream painted walls. The bar side had a quarry tiled floor, a woodburning stove and a pool table. The interior was a lot bigger than I anticipated, especially on the lounge side. There was a central bar which served the lounge and bar side areas. Five ales on handpump, Theakston Lightfoot, Castle Rock Harvest Pale, St Austell Tribute, TT Landlord and Derby Business as Usual. We went for the Derby, which was in good shape. The locals in here were friendly and chatty. A decent pub, this one.
