The Cramond Inn, Edinburgh

A characterful Sam Smiths pub in the very small touristy village of Cramond, you can walk to Cramond Island over the breakwater when the tide is out. Multi roomed pub, but opened out of course. It's had some ups and downs since my first visit in about 1994 and has closed at least twice. However it's troubles seem to be over for the moment. Sadly there's no cask ale, so I had a pint of mild at the usual rock bottom price. Ms CAMRA bought a "wild hairy haggis" from the tourist shop across the road.

As with so many of Sam Smith's pubs, this is an interesting old building that has been tastefully restored and maintained. Having said that, as a pub I found it slightly disappointing in that there was no "real" Old Brewery Bitter available, and the keg mild that we had was pricey for Sam Smiths at £2.34 a pint, and keg OBB was even more so at £2.90. Bottled beers were advertised starting at a scandalous £5.00! As the only pub in the village, and a tourist honey pot at that, I suppose they can charge what they like, but being more used to their astonishingly low prices in non-tourist pubs, I felt ever so slightly ripped off.
