This is a Young’s pub with the usual ales on, but they did have an excellent guest ale in Butcombe Bitter. Like previous reviewers, I quickly realised that this was an unpretentious backstreet pub that has somehow survived in its current form so clos... [more>]

There is an ancient looking stone fireplace in this bar with a coat of arms and the date “1690,” presumably the year it was built, carved on it. The pub itself is modern, however, having been renovated within the past year. It’s still a pleasant vill... [more>]

Directly across from the railway station and the town’s only disco, this is a popular pub which can be extremely busy at weekends, with DJs and karaoke singers making it difficult to hear yourself speak. A much quieter and more relaxed atmosphere pre... [more>]

This ex Banks's house is now (since spring 2010) a free-house specialising in real ales - typically up to 10 ales. Local ales from Enville, Kinver and The Black Country brewery were on when I visited and were supplemented by a good changing selectio... [more>]

Known for years as "The Strath," this pub became "McCormick’s" for a time and is now "The Coachman’s Tavern," reflecting the fact that the proprietor is also the owner of a local bus company. Since moving on from its Irish incarnation ("McCormick’s")... [more>]

Called into this 2010 Good Beer Guide pub today and found the choice of beers was mainly the larger breweries rather than micros. Had Triple fff Altons Pride which was in good condition.

Our first visit to this 2010 entry in the Good Beer Guide as we gave up trying to get there last time we went to Newcastle. It is a bit of a walk over footbridges to find it, but it was a good pub worth looking for. We chose Fernandes Bier Keller a... [more>]

I like the style of this 2010 entry in the Good Beer Guide, with its long narrow bar. Loved the cartoon pictures on the wall, said to be customers from some time ago. Enjoyed Big Lamp Sunny Daze and Yorkshire Dales Booze Moor here.
