The Packhorse is the only open pub on the busy road through Lawrence Hill.
Once inside the bar faces in a small single roomed pub,the floor is bare boarded, there are normal tables and chairs around the edge of the room and a pool table is on the left side.
There were no real ales on the bar,i had a drink of John Smiths Smooth Crap which lived up to its name.
Background music was playing.
This is a very basic pub, just the sort i like going in.

A basic, no frills boozer on the main road through Lawrence Hill, it's a single L-shape room with some good sized windows at the front to sit and watch the world go by.

The colour scheme it red and white, with the lower half of the walls being painted red and the upper half white which creates an unusual effect. The shelving behind the bar has also been painted red. The flooring was old boards and there was a white outline of a body like you see in crime dramas in front of the bar. Whether anyone has actually died there I am not sure. The sideways leg of the room contains a pool table, a couple of fruit machines and some sort of boxing game. This had a large boxing glove above where the player would stand, presumably to punch you on the head if you lost. Needless to say, I did not try this out.

There was some motorcycle memorabilia around and several pictures of bikes. That, together with the AC/DC music playing suggest that perhaps it is a bit of a bikers pub, although it was very quiet on a recent Thursday evening visit with just one punter stood up at the bar.

Unusually, there were no ales on tap, real or otherwise. Ciders were Thatcher's Gold and Pheasant Plucker, although the guy at the bar was drinking Natch out of a can.
