A traditional, but quite smart looking pub, it has perhaps had some recent renovation work and is now well presented both inside and out. Internally it consists one long bar running along the front of the pub, and a second, smaller room off to the rear creating an L-shape.

Décor wise, it’s a mixture of contemporary and traditional, with attractive slate style tiling on the floor, but also pine wood panelling on the lower part of the walls. The large windows are a good place to sit and watch the world go by, and there were a number of stools provided for this purpose. A pool table was off to the left and a TV screen was showing the athletics, although the volume was off so this was not too intrusive. There was also a pinball machine which is an unusual feature these days. The room at the rear looked a little cosier perhaps with lower lighting levels and candles on all the tables, but there were also some very large speakers around and a band warming up, so any notions of a romantic nature would be swiftly dispelled.

There were five hand pumps on the bar, although two appeared to have run out leaving Butcombe, London Pride and Dawkins Bristol Best. Somehow I seem to have neglected to note the ciders which is very remiss of me, although I’m sure they included Thatcher’s Gold. There was also an unusually good selection of sprits behind the bar. If hot drinks are more your thing, a few chalk boards listed a number of tea, coffee and hot chocolate selections. All in all, a decent enough pub.

I quite liked the look of the Queens Head,as it is set on a slight bend and had high rise flats just beyond it.
Once inside the bar faces in a single L shaped room, there is a tiled floor to the front and only bar stools for seating, the rear right side is bare boarded and has normal tables and chairs.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Ashley Down Sideways, which went down well, the other real ales were Wickwar Bob and Arbour Pocket Rocket.
Background music was playing.
I thought this was a decent enough pub to have a drink in.
