Multi-room ** CAMRA heritage pub. The curved main bar is pretty battered and needs a spruce-up, it looks far less plush and appealing now than the old photos on CAMRA NI website. We liked the (presumably bespoke) Banks lion rampant fire detail and very nice leaded windows. Through a tiled corridor is a nicer lounge behind the bar which was empty, might-well explain its better condition. Also a pool room. Three cask which seemed a stretch, Youngs Bitter and two Banks in the shape of Amber and Mild (NBSS 2.5). The locals were engrossed in a TV wildlife documentary on the big screen. All felt a bit downtrodden in here despite a fairly cheery lass behind the bar. Do BCA fancy taking it on...?

UPDATE: Refurbished recently, dart board now in the Coffee Room. Banks's MILD and Bitter always on, maybe with a third. MILD is always good.

Feb 2011: A great rounded-front Banks's corner pub originally built in 1900 as the Sandbank Tavern - a good part of the original pub is actually the chip shop next door. The pub changed its name in 1957 to the RC, allegedly for local traditional purposes. It is in undressed brick, with a projecting wood and white rendered upper frontage and etched windows. There is a central courtyard patio area.

The inside has a nesting of three rooms. The main serving bar is the front room. It is in red, with a green ceiling and wood floor. A few prints adorn the walls and there is a TV on the wall, that shows the footy and stuff. There is a small fireplace. The lounge is the former 'smoke room'. It is served by a hatch from the central bar. It is in a coffee colour, with brown ceiling and has a dart board and small fireplace (gas fire). There are a few fun prints and bell pushes are still evident. The backroom , the 'coffee room' according to the etched windows, is in blue and really is a to facilitate the games machines - the seat is a bit scruffy. The service and people have always been really friendly. The music was general and a decent level at last visit.

Beer; tap stuff, with a decent Banks's MILD and Bitter on electronic cask pump, with a single rotating handpull guest - the last being Pedigree, but other Marston's drinks feature

A great place, really enjoy it here - always visit here when in Blocko

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Romping Cat

With a hint of Brewer's Tudor and retaining two bars separated by a narrow off-sales counter in the entrance corridor, this is an interesting heritage pub. The plainly furnished bar has a curved frontage and limited decor, but the etched Banks' glazing remains in the three windows. The larger lounge is more comfortable but just has a serving hatch (as does the rear corridor leading to the games room). Pedigree plus Banks's Original (£2.60) and Amber available on the various handpumps on different parts of the central servery.
