Update: Not sure the state of the place when Quickie visited in January, but the place is undergoing refurbishment (you can smell the paint). It is still going to be a bar at the front, with dining to the rear and in the conservatory, but the food isn't up and running yet. A mature clientele, with good service, the pub offered one real ale - a decent enough St Austell Proper Job.

Sep 2009: A nice detached, brick and white rendered exteriored build.
This place has been refurbished in modern style and is not a pub - it is 90% kitted out for food. Generally it is open plan and the decor is light green. There are a lot of tables crammed in, so i found it very hot, if you are just wanting a drink there isnt much space and a few leather comfy chairs dotted about. There was Sky TV. Service was fine, the gaffer was really friendly and i was hot because it was rammed, so its clearly popular.
Beer; tap stuff really, with a decent enough drop of Theakston's MILD. The only handpull beer was Jennings Cumberland Ale, which wasnt on.
Really a food place. Modern interiors are not my thing (i know others love them) and it would have been too full for me to feel comfy. I wouldnt go just for a beer

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Plough & Harrow
Looks reasonably traditional from a distance, but the interior has been partially opened-out and comprehensively refurbished in a surprisingly modern style. Retains elements of the original front, side and back bars, but there is also a carvery area up a few steps at the back and a conservatory (not in use when I visited) to one side. Initially alarmed to see a clipless pump on the front counter, but thankfully there was another dispensing Robinson's Trooper (£3.20) at the back.

The Plough & Harrow at Hill Top used to be a bit of a dump and a little uninviting to say the least. But not any more!
The pub received a complete overhaul earlier this year, and since then the car park has nearly always been full. So last night (Thursday 4th Sept), a friend and I decided to pay a visit, and we were both pleasantly surprised.
The food was very good indeed, with my friend stating that she had just eaten the best Hunters Chicken that she had ever tasted. My Stuffed Salmon with Champagne Sauce was equally just as delicious. At around £7 per dish, we also thought it was excellent VFM.
So don't drive by this litle forgotten pub anymore. Venture inside for a meal and you will not be disappointed.
