The exterior signage claims this is a freehouse, so imagine the emotional crash when confronted with three GK ales (IPA, Abbott and Belhaven) – what a waste. My Belhaven was warm and manky though properly pulled through it would have been ok. Situated over two levels there’s an enticing wood panelled interior with combo of wood, slate and tiled flooring. The nice modern frosted windows at front work well. A pool table to the rear alongside an enigmatic tiled sign on the floor proclaiming ‘Slainte’ (apparently is a form of Gaelic drinking toast) which belies a previous incarnation as an Irish theme pub. The unwatched daytime TV volume clashing with the piped music got on my wick, so I did my best to read the daily papers available instead.

A disappointment.

This pub in the centre of town is in basic alehouse style, with wood panelling, rough plasterwork and bare floorboards. There is a pool table and when I was here ( a Tuesday evening) it was fairly quiet. Ales on hand pump were Greene King IPA and Old Speckled hen, plus a winter seasonal from the same stable.
