Visited on a weekday lunchtime at the end of May. Six hand pulls at the bar with one cider and one "coming soon". A couple of mainstream offerings but the others were interesting. I noticed an ale called Amarillo at 4% and Blissful Blonde by Dunsc... [more>]

According to WhatPub this is a Thwaites pub, though I am not convinced as there is no signage with Thwaites branding to be seen (unusual for them) and none of their ales were on at the bar (also odd). I counted eight hand pulls at the bar with nothi... [more>]

Visited on a weekday early afternoon earlier in the month. There are 5 or 6 hand pulls serving, at the time of my visit, two by Beer Monkey, one by Blackedge and Madog by Purple Moose. I had the Black Stout by Blackedge, which I have had before and... [more>]

This place never used to look that inviting but I think it may have had a refurb relatively recently as it now looks quite smart both inside and out. Real ales are available and I had The Mancunian by Brightside and my friend had Mango Where No Man ... [more>]

After a period of closure the Blue Pig has now reopened. From memory there were a couple of real ales, we went for the Blonde by Ticketybrew when visiting at the end of last month. Towards the end of the night so my memory is a little hazy. I do, ... [more>]

My ancient N Wales beer guide reveals that this was a Burtonwood pub which means of course it now belongs to Marston. Inside it's a single open plan room with a TV, darts, a pool table and a jukebox. The floor looked like a wood laminate. Although t... [more>]

Again, my ancient N Wales beer guide reveals that this was a Burtonwood house. As noted below it's a long single room with a raised seating area by the window at the front and a pool table at the rear. There's not a hand pump in sight on the bar and ... [more>]

As noted below this is a small single room with the bar on the right and a carpeted area to the left. There are tiles around the bar and overall this is a bit more plush than some Holyhead pubs. Despite that the bar is devoid of any hand pumps so I h... [more>]

My ancient N Wales beer guide reveals that the Rose & Crown (mentioned below) which this once was used to be an Ind Coope house. I missed the pool area as I got distracted by a music act setting up over to the right. The beers from the two hand pumps... [more>]

This is a small long room with darts on the immediate right followed by the bar counter and a quieter snug area at the rear. There are a few small alcoves opposite the bar. There was music playing that I suspect was from a jukebox. My overall impress... [more>]

This is typical of one of those trendy places so common in London. It has an unfinished ceiling, unfinished floor and poor acoustics. There was some muppet near the door asking if I was going to eat. There appeared to be a cellar bar downstairs. I fo... [more>]

Undoubtedly on old building that should be oozing character and ambiance, but as Quinno explains below it has been poorly modernised and any real pub personality has been thoroughly ironed out. Crap music in the the background was irritating as was t... [more>]

A large hotel with some good drinking areas, better than I was expecting, the usual Youngs beers were on but a very good guest pint of Wimbledon Copper Leaf was had. Worth a look.

A very basic and characterless locals pub, rather like drinking in a club, totally featureless apart from a David Bowie fixation in the form of a few pictures on a wall. The beer choice was fittingly plain as well, Doom Bar, Landlord and Harveys Suss... [more>]

Nice looking pub, but abysmal service and the fact only Doom Bar was on mean't I didn't stay long at all . Poor and another wasted opportunity. |
