A recent opening located on the site of a former kitchen design showroom and then a dance studio located directly opposite the theatre, this is a combined micro-brewery and pub with the brewery taking up the rear part of the premises and the pub at the front. This could perhaps count as a micro-pub, although possibly the small selection of stuffed rolls that were available precludes this.

It’s been nicely decorated, and the pub part certain feels a lot less industrial than many brewery taps with wood strip flooring, glazed tiling on the bar counter, and wood cladding on the walls. Elsewhere was fresh plasterwork with a deep blue colour at the top and plain white elsewhere. Lighting is exposed filament light bulbs and there are a selection of artistic prints on the walls as well as a few miniature pot plants. Seating consisted of a number of booths down the left with bench seating facing each other, whilst on the other side of the room tables and chairs had been fashioned out of old varnished cable reels.

The rear part of the pub was much more industrial though, with insulated brewing vessels, stacks of barrels, cable trays and other brewing paraphernalia being on full display, as well as the current beer barrels being racked up on stillage. Personally, I found all this quite interesting, although my friend who is perhaps less familiar with brewery taps felt it would have been better screened off to keep the pub a bit cosier.

Beers on tap were a mixture of their own as well as other local micros, and on this occasion the cask options consisted of Twisted Oak’s Wild Wood, Arbor Blue Sky Drinking, Bristol Beer Factory’s Right to Roam and their own Lemon Head and Fat Header. Keg options meanwhile were Lime & Raspberry Crumble Sour, Woodland Creatives Milk Stout, Black Forest Gateaux Stout, Waterfalls DDHIPA and Everything Everywhere IPA. Ciders were well represented too with Rich’s Golden Harvest Medium and Lilley’s Rhubarb on keg with Lilley’s Somerset Scrumpy and Peach served from boxes in the ‘fridge. Overall I was very impressed with this, it’s nicely done out, the barman was friendly, there was a nice, chilled out atmosphere and a decent range of drinks.
