A relatively recent opening in a building that was formerly an upmarket jewellers, gin is very much the focus here as is evident from it’s name, but there is nonetheless a small selection of draft options available.
Internally it’s quite remarkable and a colleague who frequents the Cheltenham branch describes it as having been designed for the Instagram generation which is probably a fair comment. Much of the available surfaces have been covered with foliage, primarily ferns, with a number of pot plants around the top of the bar and further troughs covering much of the rear wall. Large globe lamps hung from the ceiling which was itself liberally decorated with portrait pictures, and I noticed Sid Vicious and Debbie Harry amongst them. A tassled lamp shade was on the bar counter, as well as an old fashioned pair of scales with a selection of fruit in the tray, presumably in a nod to their cocktail selection. There was apparently further seating available upstairs, although we did not investigate this.
There were no real ales on tap unfortunately, just Meantime IPA on keg. The solitary cider meanwhile was the splendid Orchard Pig Reveller. As mentioned, gin is clearly the focus here though, with the menu running to some fourteen pages. A Jaffa Cake cocktail across the table was well received, consisting of some sort of chocolate gin, as well as a garnish of a couple of real Jaffa cakes as well as the more usual sliced fruit. I actually quite liked it in here, they done a great job of converting a shop, staff were friendly and they certainly had some unusual drinks. If you’re after something a bit more pubby though, it may not be for you.
