Brian McCulloch left this review about Queenshilling

Although a new pub, the name has historic associations with Bristol as a port.

"Taking The Queens Shilling" meant receiving the payment for conscription into the Royal Navy - often under duress.

The pub is at the heart of Bristols gay pub and club scene where the queens are of a different nature - although the sailors would doubtless still be welcome.

A lively 'disco-pub' that has remained popular for years on the local scene.
