More a restaurant with beer but a pleasant enough place for a drink if a little small. Very elegant decor, ex church fittings by the looks of it. The counter up a short flight of steps at the back is home to four pulls. On this visit they were all pale beers and around 4% except for one at 6%, relatively decently kept but maybe not GBG standard. Staff seemed a little out of their comfort zone as well. Limited seating due to the size but it includes some bench seats. There’s a dining room at the rear beyond the counter and allegedly a cellar bar but I didn't see it or the gents for that matter.

The former Plough Inn closed as a pub 100 years ago. after a very lengthy and complex period of restoration over several years it reopened this week as Plau Gin and Ale bar. and it's truly something to behold. an ornate and classy place, verging on spectacular. there's a cellar bar (with a view into a 40 foot deep well) plus a main bar on several levels and a dining room upstairs with a third bar. Lots of cosy booths to enjoy a quiet drink. four real ales on the main bar plus a load more craft stuff. I had a half of porter which was beautiful - the nicest beer I have had recently. this is a must visit place and elevates Preston to the top tier of northern drinking towns.
