Nice enough pub. 5 real ales still on. Lots of Celtic FC memorabilia in the corner where the pool table is.

Still a well run Thwaites house, serving up 5 ales and one cider. Red Squirrel, Isle of Arran and Wainwright were the order of the day, both in good nick.

Will Larter left this review about The Sun Hotel

A Thwaites house in a good looking building on the right hand side of Friargate as you leave the town centre. The interior is now just one large room, with a surprisingly large vertical drinking area in front of the bar, which suggests it must get busy at times. It was quiet enough at my Friday lunchtime visit.

There are four hand pumps, serving Original, Lancaster Bomber, Wainwright and the seasonal Good Elf. I had the Original, or what I continue to call bitter, which was OK.

There is seating near the front wall and there's what can only be described as a shrine to the right - a slightly raised area which is festooned with Celtic FC scarves, badges and photos. There's also a pool table, though this was covered and pushed to one side, so perhaps they really did anticipate a large crowd later on.

On the walls near where I sat were interesting photos of some of Preston's long lost buildings. There's a jukebox and some gambling machines, and out the back a smokers yard. Toilets are upstairs but there is also one for disabled people downstairs.
