I visited this modern brewery bar back in July and was surprised to find it pretty much empty and preparing to close early on my midweek evening visit. It perhaps shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to learn that the pub has since ceased trading, having called time in mid-September following a series of financial problems. The premises was very much as you might expect from a modern brewpub, set up in a former carpet warehouse on the fringes of the city centre, it had the typical high metal framed ceiling, bare concrete floor and whitewashed brick walls that tick all of the compulsory craft beer brewpub boxes. On entering through the large plate glass frontage, the bar was immediately to the right with a plywood counter and bar back enhanced by some metal tube shelving. A nice feature here was the hop-shaped lamp shades that hung over the bar and a small greeter's lectern on the opposite wall, presumably used during peak dining hours. High tables and stools could be found opposite the bar , with scaffold legged tables and mixed chairs through the rest of the room, which runs a long way to the rear, down the right hand side, with the brewing equipment visible through windows to the left. Each table was decorated with a vase of fresh flowers and had a selection of condiments for those ordering from the simple menu with limited main course options. At the back of the room, the kitchen was visible along with access to the toilet facilities. An '80's soundtrack played very quietly in the background, but the almost entire lack of customers meant I was still able to hear it fairly clearly. Outdoor seating in the form of picnic benches was available in decent quantities around the sizable front forecourt.
Just the three cask ales, both from the in-house Sentinel brewery, were available on this visit - SB, American Red and Sentinel Gold - with the latter costing a very reasonable £2.95 a pint. I found it to be a pretty good drop of ale and enjoyed supping it whilst taking in the vast brewing vessels and tapping my toes to cheesy '80's hits.
It's a shame that a centrally located brewery bar (albeit on the very fringes of the city centre) was unable to last more than a couple of years. The bar was a good stopping off point for football fans heading to Bramall Lane and there are a few good pubs within striking distance, making it a good addition to a crawl of this part of the city, but this was obviously not enough to sustain trading and we have to console ourselves with the fact that the local ale scene is still thriving despite this loss.

As this is a brewery tap place I was expecting a reasonably good variety of beers. I wasn't disappointed. Of the 6 beers available on handpull 5 were of differing style - pale, traditional bitter, stout/porter, IPA and blonde. 3 of the beers were Sentinels own with the cherry porter being very nice. The seating is fairly basic long tables and chairs. I'm afraid that I wasn't as keen on the aroma as ROB, and have to agree with MS Camra, but I did like the place.

Good open longish room with the bar on the left as you enter. Full details of the available brews on the wall behind the bar. Six hand pumps and various kegs with a fine range of strengths. Will return here at some stage.
