Sitting above the Maud Foster drain and opposite the famous sailed windmill, this Bateman's house is an earthy boozer. The front room has a pool table to the right,a mix of furniture opposite the bar and copious bar stools for the well oiled regulars.Above a tiled fireplace is a drop down screen for BT and Sky Sports coverage. The decor is a bit dated but the welcome friendly enough. There is a much calmer back room stretching the full width of the building with dining type tables and access to the island bar,but unused .
There are 6 handpumps but on my Wednesday evening visit only Bateman's XB was on,fresh NBSS 3.5.The muzak was a little boring and loud but not as load as the regulars with one lady particularly shrill. Not quite enough real ale options to tempt another visit.

A small Georgian styled Bateman's cottage pub, with beer garden. A former GBG pub. It is in undressed brick with sash windows (cream lintels and sills) and neo-classic entrance (also in cream). The interior had an L-shaped room in cream and clay, with a red carpet and small Victorian tiled fireplace. There is a pool table and dart board and a TV, which wasn't on. Old photos adorn the walls, along with mirrors and a beer mat collection. The back room was dark - it looked more for dining. We did not eat here so can't comment on that. There was no music playing. The service was fine and there were a few locals in. Beer; usual stuff, with Bateman's XB, XXXB and Victory Ale - the Victory was fine. All in all, another nice little pub with decent beer - they usually have a guest or two, but just the three when i visited. Definitely worth a visit.
