A small Bateman's tied house and regularly in the GBG.The interior is very pleasing, mainly carpeted with etched glass windows,a brick fireplace to the left side, bench seating and lots of bic a brac hanging from the ceiling. The small bar to the right is well done in polished wood, while beyond is a pool table and darts board before the entrance to a charming beer garden. The couple who run the pub are welcoming and have created a proper local feel.
A lot of care is taken with ale conditioning and the options on my visit were Bateman's XB,XXXB and Summer Swallow (NBSS 3.5).This is the place to sup Bateman's when in Boston.
The pub was very close to Boston United's old ground and must have benefitted from match day revenue in the past.Today it's much quieter and handwritten notes talking about less opening hours (soon to open at 6pm during the week) and request to pay cash to avoid card charges maybe point to some struggling. The very calm, old school atmosphere ( despite muzak at some volume )will please many but will keep the circuit drinkers and their money away.
A must visit when in Boston,I wish this pub well.

A tidy corner Bateman's pub that is in the GBG. The upper part of the pub is in cream render and has a couple of rows of sash windows, the lower frontage is in red and white, with etched windows. There is a rear patio area. The interior has a single L-shaped room, which is in white, grey and coffee wood panel, with beige seating and a patterned carpet. There is a nice brick fireplace. There are a few mirrors and old photos on the walls, and in keeping with the pub name, a number of 1970s styled horse statues dotted about, as well as other ephemera. The fish tank is a little different, though. There is a pool table and there are a few tv's, which had silent Sky Sports News on at my visit. The service was friendly, but it was queit at my visit - more to do with my timing than a reflection of the pub. There was some general background music played at a decent level. Beer; Batemans' XXXB and XB, which was OK - the MILD wasn't on sadly. Definitely worth popping in, it just didn't have much of a choice on the day of my visit.
