A definite improvement since its takeover (and makeover) by Shiny Brewery, there are now eight hand pumps spread along the bar. The pub has changed from slightly faded to, well, Shiny (though perhaps a little clinical). The beers are listed by colour on a blackboard near the bar, four pale, one golden, one best bitter and one stout, but when I asked for the best bitter it had "flown out", apparently. Just goes to show there's no demand for best bitters any more these days...

A slightly faded railway hotel, with etched glass panels in the two doorways and a rather grand bar which has stained glass panels above. There are five hand pumps, but only Jennings Cumberland Ale and Marstons Pedigree were available. There's an area for diners to the right of the main entrance, with a larger area for drinkers to the left which can also be accessed by the door at the corner of the building. There are some old black & white railway photos but not a lot else of interest.

The beer was in good condition, but I would rather see a local ale than one from Cumbria when I'm in Derbyshire. There was quite an extensive food menu, with the promise that everything is cooked on the premises. Prices ranged from £6.95 to £9.75, and the beer was around £3 a pint, so this is not expensive for a tourist area. They were advertising dinner on Christmas Day for £21.95, which is not bad value. I'd like to see an improvement in Marstons' rather tired beer range before I made another visit to this pub. On the plus side, the tables seemed to be spotlessly clean.

This pub used to be a Free house with a lot of pumps on the bar,it is now a Marstons house.
Once inside there is a small dining area to the right and the longish bar is to the left this runs to the back of the pub which has a pool table there.
We sat at a large round table at the front looking out of the bay window it was nice watching the world go by but this was the most sticky table i have ever sat at we had to put beer mats in different parts of the table so our arms did'nt get stuck to the table.
There were three real ales on the bar i tried a pint of Marstons Pedigree this was a little bit below par there was also Jennings Cumberland and Hobgoblin on.
I think if they gave the pub a bit of a clean it might be a bit more appealing.
