This Hotel was rebuilt in 1670 with parts of the building dating back to 1573. We came across two large rooms, a dining area on the left of entrance and a lounge and bar area on the right. Four handpumps with three beers on, Ruddles Best, Thornbridge Lord Marple & Peak Ales Chatsworth Gold. The large windows provided a spectacular view of the Opera House opposite and the Botanical Gardens. The Chatsworth Gold was in good shape, but at £5.40 a pint it would need to be!

Very busy when I called with plenty watching the Arsenal - Liverpool game. Also a few having a pre concert drink before watching Leo Sayer at the Opera House over the road! Lovely old building and a great spot for a pub. The beer choice wasn't overly exciting with Abbot, Landlord and Tribute on offer. The Tribute was in good nick though. I liked it here and would happily call again.

Decided to call in on Saturday, not expecting great things as this is a Greene King pub, so we were quite pleased to discover that two of the four hand pulls offered guest ales - Silk of Amnesia by Storm Brewing and Kodiak by Beartown. The other two were Greene King IPA and Abbot Ale. The Silk of Amnesia was a decent dark ale and slipped down nicely. There was a strange gentleman tottering around with a pint who looked like he may have been trying to decide whether to attempt to attach himself to other groups of customers, but in the end he took a seat in the raised area by the front of the pub and seemed to keep himself to himself. The Silk of Amnesia was £3.80 for a pint, so pretty much in line with the other places in Buxton we had ventured into.
