Very busy when I called with plenty watching the Arsenal - Liverpool game. Also a few having a pre concert drink before watching Leo Sayer at the Opera House over the road! Lovely old building and a great spot for a pub. The beer choice wasn't overly exciting with Abbot, Landlord and Tribute on offer. The Tribute was in good nick though. I liked it here and would happily call again.

Decided to call in on Saturday, not expecting great things as this is a Greene King pub, so we were quite pleased to discover that two of the four hand pulls offered guest ales - Silk of Amnesia by Storm Brewing and Kodiak by Beartown. The other two were Greene King IPA and Abbot Ale. The Silk of Amnesia was a decent dark ale and slipped down nicely. There was a strange gentleman tottering around with a pint who looked like he may have been trying to decide whether to attempt to attach himself to other groups of customers, but in the end he took a seat in the raised area by the front of the pub and seemed to keep himself to himself. The Silk of Amnesia was £3.80 for a pint, so pretty much in line with the other places in Buxton we had ventured into.

A posh looking pub and a pleasant interior to boot. A little bit pricey but its ok. Opposite the opera house.

Called in for a swift half as we trudged through the snow on our way to the station at the end of a recent Buxton crawl. The beers were OK and the service was fine.

Although I didn't have time to stop for a drink here on my recent visit to Buxton, I did "pop my head round the door". There were three handpumps on the go, serving Courage Directors, Greene King Abbot and Wells Bombardier, all from London and the south-east. So, no local breweries then. It was very busy (Tuesday afternoon), mostly with diners, despite the noisy and smelly road resurfacing going on all around outside. I imagine it will be busy in the evenings too, being right next door to the opera house. I think the anonymous review posted on 4 May 2010 may have been a little harsh, and smacks of revenge. Better to complain to the pub company, surely, if you think you've been hard done by?

If you have children its best to avoid this unfriendly pub! Although they have baby changing and highchairs in the so called 'Family Room' we were recently asked to leave because our annoying children were laughing to loud!
